Plate 2: Surfaces and Booleans

Plate 2: Surfaces and Booleans

This course introduces students to two essential modeling techniques in Autodesk Maya: Surfaces and Booleans. Students will explore how to create smooth, precise shapes using NURBS surfaces and how to combine, subtract, or intersect polygonal objects through Boolean operations. The lessons will focus on both technical skills and creative applications, helping students understand when and why to use these tools in 3D modeling workflows.

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Construct and manipulate NURBS surfaces for clean, curved models.
  • Apply Boolean operations to quickly generate complex forms.
  • Troubleshoot common issues with geometry when using Booleans.
  • Integrate surfaces and Booleans into broader modeling projects.

This course is designed for beginners and intermediate learners who want to strengthen their modeling foundation in Maya and gain confidence in creating professional-quality assets.
